葉山に着きました

Safely landed in Japan. The house we are renting for the summer has this great ocean view (well, now it's dark, so I'll enjoy the view in the morning)! How fortunate we are!

お陰さまで無事日本に到着し、秋谷の家に入りました。眼前に海が広がる素晴らしいお宅です。こんなところでひと夏過ごせるとは、なんてしあわせなことでしょう。

いよいよ日本へ

I'll depart for Japan this morning! My music friend C. will give me a ride to the airport (thank you, C.!). I am so grateful for this opportunity to stay in Hayama this summer again. See you all in 7 weeks!

今から日本に出発します。Ｃさんが空港まで送ってくださいます（Ｃさん、ありがとうございます！）。秋谷（あきや、と読みます。葉山の南側に隣接していますが横須賀市です）での７週間、毎日こころして暮らしたいと思います。では行ってきま～す。

結婚式（もうひとつ）

The Monticello Quintet played for another wedding. If the heat was the problem of the wedding the day before, it was the mosquito bite this time. You cannot slap off the mosquitoes while you play an instrument (if you have only two hands).

また結婚式でした（木管五重奏）。前回の結婚式は直射日光にさらされて暑さでクラクラしましたが、今回はやぶ蚊に悩まされました（手が２本しかないので、楽器演奏中は蚊をたたくことができません）。

結婚式

The Monticello Quintet (the woodwind quintet I am in) played for a wedding at the King Family Vineyards. The weather was nice and everything was so beautiful.

地元のワイナリーで、結婚式の伴奏をしてきました（木管五重奏）。鳥が鳴き、緑は美しく、とても気持ちの良い結婚式でした。

蝶

When I saw this butterfly in front of a bakery (can you see it? it's that tiny yellow thing on the flower), I wondered how my husband is doing in Japan, because he studies the butterfly vision while he is in Hayama (I don't know the name of this butterfly but I do know that this is not the species he is working on).

主人はシャーロッツビルでは電気魚の研究をしていますが、葉山の研究所ではアゲハ蝶の視覚を研究しています。この写真はシャーロッツビルのパン屋さんの前で見つけた黄色の蝶（花の左上に小さく写っています）。名前は・・・わかりません。

赤ちゃん会（シャーロッツビル）

The babies and the mothers get-together in Charlottesville (every Wednesday). This week Mrs. K. taught us bread baking, so I participated (to eat...). Mrs. K. and her daughter M., Mrs. H. and her son K. will be leaving Charlottesville in August, so it was my last opportunity to say good bye to them. Thank you for your friendship, Mrs. K. and Mrs. H.! I wish you all the best in your new environment.

毎週水曜日の赤ちゃん会、今回はカレーパン教室を兼ねていたので参加してきました（食べに）。パンの先生であるＫさんとお嬢さんのＭちゃん、それにＫ君とお母さんのＨさんは、８月はじめにお引越しされてしまうので、私がお会いできる最後の機会となりました。Ｋさん・Ｈさん、１年間本当にお世話になりました。どうぞお元気で！

アボカドの水遣り

I feel very lucky to have such a nice friend as A. (=Mrs. Y.). A. will be watering our avocado tree (we started from a seed three years ago and now it's too tall to move!) while we are in Japan. Thank you so much, A.!

私たちの葉山滞在中、親切なＡさんが我が家のアボカド（３年前に種から芽を出し、今や大木？）の水遣りを担当してくださることになりました。Ａさん、本当にありがとうございます。とても助かります。

きのこ

Although this picture was not taken today (it was four days ago, I think), I just have to show this to everyone! Have you seen such a big mushroom in your front yard? No, it's not the kind you can eat...

今日の写真ではないのですが（４日くらい前に撮りました）、庭に巨大なきのこが生えていました。こんな大きいきのこは見たことがありません。食べられない種類だったのが残念でした。

主人が日本へ

My husband departed from Charlottesville airport to Japan today. I'm going there next week (I will depart a week from today). I really look forward to spending the summer in Hayama again! (The first thing I have to do is to remember how to update my blog entry.....Ok, the picture is there.....)

主人が日本に向けて出発しました。来週には私も日本に行きます。今年も葉山で夏を過ごせると思うと本当に楽しみです。（とりあえずブログってどうやってアップするのだったか思い出さなきゃ。写真を取り込んで・・・、と。）
