It took me a while to figure out that this ' mark after e is not an apostrophe but an (acute) accent above the letter e.

車でこの店の前を通りすぎる度に、この e の後のアポストロフの意味を考えていました。実はアポストロフではなく e の字の上につくアクセントでした。
